This past weekend I had the most wonderful opportunity to witness a friend of mine get married. I had known him about 6 years, but didn't know his wife so well, and I met her for the first time at the wedding. They are truly a Christ centered couple and their love for each other was so easy to see.
Even though it was his wedding day, he was at the door of the church greeting all his guests once, twice even three times! He was just SO excited! And when the wedding procession begun, and the bride walked in, my mother made an observation that everyone just started getting so excited when the bride appeared; but I wasn't looking at her (though she was truly breathtaking), I was looking at the groom. And he was bouncing in place with excitement! I may be young, and I may have my ideals about what I want from my future partner, but that right there was the look that succinctly captured what I wanted in my life in the future.
Sonnet XVII
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
~Pablo Neruda
And with that, congratulations to the new couple. May you have a blessed life together and walk in the presence of God and continue brightening the lives of your friends and family!
